Sorry, only in finnish.

Engine where it should be – inside

030720092991

Engine was installed today. Helped quit a bit to have three men helping and a tractor with a hoisting bar. Engine mount holes matched with the holes on the engine bed, also the measurement between the thrust bearing ant the engine was what it should be.

Exhaust system will be installed next since I removed the old one which had asbestos insulation.

Optimistically thinking the leak is settling…..

The mast is waiting the fifth layer of varnish. Mast up during the coming week and course to the home harbour?

Mast got 4. layer of varnish

30062009291
Mast was varnished the fourth time, still few layers to be added.

Engine should go in on friday, will it fit?

One of the new plank seam is leaking after water pushed the goo from it. Situation should be brighter on coming weekend?

Have to adjust the launch date

Now it starts, rescheduling the launch date…..

At least a partly reason was the fact that 3 or 4 keelplanks or parts of them and two pair of frames  has to be changed. Frames are already installed and also two plank ends on the starboard side. One or two remains to be done during this week. One of those may change to just fitting a dutchman.

Mast is out and ready to be worked on. Maybe already next week?

Cleaning the bilge

22032009216
Space where the new engine will sit. Two of Volvo’s fastenings are still visible but will be removed. The engine bed needs to be modified since the old engine is 8 cm wider then the new one. The new engine bed will be longer since the thrust bearing will be istalled to the bed also.

A lot of old paint and stuff was removed with the hot air gun and scraper. It was a bit of work, since the bilge is 1 m deep. Some of the work I left to next weekend. Something to wait for! Behind the old paint was redish brown mahogany, still intact after 60 years. Good.

Engine gone

17022009187

Engine is out after some sweating although the temperature was -8C. I managed to lower the engine to the ground  without any scratches to the hull.

Now I need to clean the engine compartment of left-over cables and hoses and start to plan how Yanmar will sit there.

Engine almost out

16022009178

Today the engine moved in the boat one meter up and two backwards. At least now it feels that the worst part is over.

I used the main boom, blocks and rope to move it. Was a little bit of a struggle but now it is out. Now it needs to be lifted up some more and then sideways (what a great movie!) two meters and three meters down to the ground. Tomorrow I need to clean the bilge under the engine of some oil and plan how to do the final lift to get the engine to the ground.

Engine moving…

I have removed all “easily” removable parts of the engine items being flywheel, starter, generator, cylinders, heat exhanger and the clutch. Weight is somewhere around 120 kg so it should be quite easy to move around. It has already moved approx 1 m forward. Next it should be lifted up about one meter and then backwards.

Propeller shaft needs to be changed, I should go to Helsinki boat show to check the different possibilities.

Johanna is getting a new engine

New engine is waiting in the garage. Biggest problem is most likely hoe to get the old one out, and which route. The old engine weights approx 300 kg so some kind of mechanic/hydraulic power is needed. First it needs to be taken approx 1 meter forward, after that about 1 meter upwards and then two meters backwards. Then we are out, and approx three meters from ther ground.

New engine is 30 hp Yanmar and the engine bed needs to be adjusted to it. At the same time the propeller shaft and propeller need to be changed.
